BBC Radio training schemes suitable for new graduates University of Manchester Careers Blog News from the BBC about their Radio 1 and 1Extras Take It On Trainee Scheme We’re practicing what we preach with Take it On, by opening the doors of Radio 1 1Xtra’s new HQ and offering paid placements that give young people the opportunity to build experience and get involved in what we do at the networks.  Four trainees will start with us on 8 week placements at the end of January and placements will then run across the year. There is no minimum entry requirement for the scheme education or employment wise- we’re just looking for creative genius and applicants must be over 18. The scheme is aimed at people already working on media and creative projects at a local level through for example, youth projects and community groups but who are now looking for some hands on professional experience to kick start their careers in the industry. Anger and Outrage Lee Iacocca has written a new book, Where Have All the Leaders Gone. I havent read it but the excerpts sing a song I have heard at least twice this month, so I feel the need to share. Am I the only guy in this country whos fed up with whats happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder! Weve got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state right over a cliff, weve got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we cant even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, Stay the course. Stay the course? Youve got to be kidding. This is America, not the damned, Titanic. Ill give you a sound bite: Throw all the bums out! Iacocca wonders whereour outrage is. Tom Herbek, our Pastor, wrote aboutusing anger as a catalyst for change- to get us to do something to help others. You cant continue life as normal today, you just cant. Every where you look there is danger and we need to start doing something about it in our own ways. Thousands of people are without jobs yet the top ranking officers are all still getting paid their huge salaries Why were we paying $4 a gallon for gas anyway? Why do I have to go to the pharmacy to get an over-the-counter drug with pseudonephrine? Why doesnt our governments budget work like the private sector? Rewarded for coming in under budget, rather than finding ways to spend the extra saved to ensure they get the same amount next time? Why are we asking Nurses and other direct care providers to work more than a 12 hour shift? Lets all get angry and outraged by the state of affairs right now. Dig your heads out of the sand and really listen to what is being said and not done. Iacocca also says: Had Enough? Hey, Im not trying to be the voice of gloom and doom here. Im trying to light a fire. Im speaking out because I have hope I believe in America. In my lifetime, Ive had the privilege of living through some of America s greatest moments. Ive also experienced some of our worst crises: The Great Depression, World War II, the Korean War, the Kennedy Assassination, the Vietnam War, the 1970s oil crisis, and the struggles of recent years culminating with 9/11. If Ive learned one thing, its this: You dont get anywhere by standing on the sidelines waiting for somebody else to take action.. Whether its building a better car or building a better future for our children, we all have a role to play. Thats the challenge Im raising in this book. Its a Call to Action for people who, like me, believe in America. Its not too late, but its getting pretty close. So lets shake off the crap and go to work. Lets tell em all weve had enough. I am only asking that you consider that everything is not alright. What can you do to make things better?
