Every once and awhile I get an email from a college student who is attending (or recently graduated) from the college I attended. They are usually looking for career advice or a potential inside track to a job at my company. What amazes me is the misconceptions about job search and networking. So in one call I had today, I asked the guy if he was leveraging LinkedIn and he told me not really. So of course I said youre kidding, why? and he told me that he was afraid that his employer would find out that he was looking for a job. What? Everyone is on LinkedIn and being on LinkedIn doesnt necessarily mean that you are looking for a job. Another basic tactic is leveraging company career sites, but even that great source is not used as much as it should be. There are thousands of jobs if you just know where to look.
